Silent Hill: The Movie

Konami has recently announced that its psycho-thriller title Silent Hill is going to be released world wide as a major motion picture. I know everyone might not agree with me here, but Resident Evil the movie was a disappointment all together, that is, if you're looking for authenticity over production. Though, can't we just have both?

It's a step in the right direction. A game that isn't regarded as one of the more dominant titles in the market is making its move to the silver screen. Following in the foot steps of more well known titles such as Mortal Kombat, Mario Brothers and Resident Evil.

Parasite Eve was in there somewhere, but I'll be honest when I say I never saw it. I'm not sure it counts anyway. Regardless, Konami has themselves a potential cash cow here in Silent Hill the movie.

Movies falling under the vague horror genre have done pretty well spite having far less substance than the story lines that ran through the Silent Hill series with the exception of the second installment. I know, I know, nobody wants to give Silent Hill 2 any love. I do, believe me, even though it didn't have much to do with one and three at all, I still enjoyed it.

Konami taking this game to theaters can do a number of things for them and the gaming industry alike. The best case scenario is happy crowds everywhere leaving the theaters thinking to themselves -"There's a game like that? Wow!"

That's right, folks. There's a game like that, and it was excellent. The third one had a better story with more twists than a lot of good novels. Such a well done movie may cause more than a few non-gamers to convert to our side, thus causing a chain reaction of revenue for the business itself.

Such a best case scenario would largely rely on how authentic the movie is. Are they going to stray from a lot of the settings, places, and situations that made Silent Hill what it was? It happened with Resident Evil, and linking the movie to the game became more of an easter egg hunt than anything else. As fun as it may have been, there wasn't any snap kicking of bacterial zombie dogs in matrix time in Resident Evil the game.

Unfortunately, if there's any room for you to go up, there's always room for you to go down. What could go wrong? Well, I don't know, as I don't pretend to be an expert on the movie business, but there's a few things we could kick around.

Let's say the director, with his complete 'artistic control' gets a little wrapped up in popular culture. The hero or heroine involved turns into a gun wielding martial artist that rips flesh to a viciously Nu-Metal sound track. That's fine, but that's not Silent Hill.

It could also turn into something that the game isn't about at all and simply carry its title. Final Fantasy was nothing short of depressing. No, I'm not trashing what kind of movie it turned out to be, because even though many people weren't happy with it, I liked it.

Personal tastes aside, Final Fantasy would have done so much better if it had even one character that remotely resembled a character from one of it's many titles. You can bet, also, that if the movie was based on one of the games entirely than it would have done millions better than it did originally. Silent Hill shouldn't try to reach out and grab a different demographic, because in turn it ends up losing its handle on the large demographic it already has a hold of.

It's time to do the game world justice on the silver screen, and I can't think of a game that would be able to do it better than Silent Hill. There's nothing but substance there, and mixed with a little bit of creative input from a talented director the movie could really go places.

No, it's probably not going to score anyone an Oscar, but at least people would be able to look at the list of games-to-movies and be proud of Silent Hill. Resident Evil couldn't pave the way, and neither could Final Fantasy. Do your fans and gamers alike a favor, Konami, stick to your roots and your fan base will do the rest.

Y para ver curiosidades sobre la peli en la pagian Europea tienes que buscar en los otros menues interactuables, creo que esta en "Detras de Escena" fijense bien, revuelvan la pagina, sean independientes

Justamente hablando de investigar, me meti a la pagina de Konami Japon y miren lo que encontre:

Es una nota periodistica oficial con los responsable de la peli y ademas lean esto:

"La película basada en Silent Hill está confirmada. La productora será Davis Film Sarl (Resident Evil) y el director Christophe Gans (El Pacto de los Lobos, Crying Freeman). Konami se encargará del guión, y Akira Yamaoka será el director de sonido. No se prevee su salida hasta el 2005 como mínimo"

Pero eso ultimo ya se sabía. Lo que no se es lo primero que pusiste, ya que está en inglés, y mi inglés es escaso. ^^. ¿alguien dispuesto a traducirlo? ¿en las webs que pones está eso mismo en español?

¿Ingles escaso? ¿A estas alturas del partido un fan de Silent Hill con ingles escaso? Ok Ok, pero no hay ganas de traducirlo

Y lo que hay en las otras paginas es info mas en general, en la Europea selecciona el idioma en español y hay algo del guion, revuelve esa web...

Realmente esta nota me ha levantado el animo para esperar algo bueno, porque algunos sabrán que yo no apoyaba del todo la idea de hacer la película de Silent Hill por razones lógicas: nunca ninguna película basada en un videojuego ha creado algo que sea digno de recordar, siendo de terror era probable que terminasen poniendo un tema de Rock Pesado o los que estan de moda hoy en día, no me pude imaginar un pueblo de verdad totalmente lleno de niebla entre otros puntos como hacer del título lo único parecido al juego. Pero ahora que he leído la nota veo que no me espero ningún punto negativo de los que me imaginé anteriormente, asi que espero sinceramente que salga lo mejor que se pueda.

Oye que pasa, te recuerdo que el silent hill está en español, a mi el inglés no me hace falta para jugar a silent hill. No es malo mi inglés, lo que si es malo es mi vocabulario de ese idioma. :S

Bueno, pero no todos los juegos con argumentos complicados estan en español, el ingles para mi es demasiado escencial en esta vida, te ayuda a conseguir trabajo (jauauja desvirtuamiento) bue, no viene al caso, es que no tengo ganas de traducirlo
