[quote]Matt responds: Very intelligent. You should know that comparing Metroid Prime to Halo is kind of pointless. Apples and oranges. Two completely different games. But of course that's no fun, so I'll take your bait and refute your decidedly illiterate and unfounded claims. So let's compare them. Why not? I got nothing better to do.
[quote]In my humble opinion, Halo was not better than Metroid Prime. In fact, I would confidently state that the single-player experience in Metroid Prime utterly and totally kicked the ass of Halo's single-player offering. Completely spanked it.
[quote]Halo 2 did the following better:
Textures. No doubt about that. The textures in the game were crisper than those in Prime
Wide-open environments. Some of the environments in the game were jaw-droppingly large
Storyline: some major twists along the way
Scripted events and artificial intelligence: Master Chief seemed to be part of a living, breathing squad and a wide range of scripted scenes helped illustrate the turmoil
Vehicle interaction: driving the Warthog around the gargantuan world was just plain fun
Multiplayer modes: both cooperative and deathmatch
Audio: deep bass and explosive booms all delivered in 5.1 surround sound.
[quote]Here's what Metroid Prime did better:
Single-player game; far more intelligent thanks to superior level design and pacing
Unparalleled art, period: absolutely gorgeous presentation; worlds brimming with vegetation, curves, and geometrical extras like jutting pipes and broken, cracked walls; and even the amazing design of main character Samus Aran's HUD, which has been copied since. Really, anybody who thinks Halo was the better looking of the two games has no business talking about games, as far as I'm concerned
Third-person puzzles: for obvious reasons
Framerate: Metroid Prime ran consistently at 60 frames per second despite dishing out detailed worlds and a wide variety of texture, particle and lighting effects at any given moment
Variety: Tallon IV in Metroid Prime took players through lava, snow, water, land, ships, and other futuristic environments
[quote]Both games shine. Which one is better only depends on what you're looking for. Obviously, if you're after gunplay and an excellent cooperative mode, or even some great deathmatches, Halo is your winner. If, on the other hand, you're looking for some exploration-based adventuring with first-person shooting and platforming, you're not going to find better than Prime's single-player mode. You won't.
